How piano lessons work at Rising Stars

Every lesson is one-on-one: one teacher, one student, for 30, 45, or 60 minutes, in one of our five lesson rooms.

In the first lesson, your teacher sets a big goal, a small goal, and a practice plan with you. Every lesson after that starts from those goals.

  • A weekly time held just for you once it clicks.
  • Pay as you go, charged about a day before each lesson.
  • Skip a week with more than 24 hours' notice.

“Sean and his team have been teaching my daughter piano for 2 years and she loves it! We previously used another music school for 6 months and she had made essentially no progress. She started immediately improving once we moved her to Rising Stars.”William W.

What piano lessons cover

Piano is a great first instrument at any age, and every lesson builds on the last one.

  • Finding your way around the keys and reading music, from first notes to full pieces.
  • Both hands working together, steady rhythm, and good posture at the bench.
  • Classical, pop, and the songs you want to play.
  • Students work from Faber Piano Adventures, with its play-along tracks for practice at home.

Lessons for kids, from age 3

Piano is one of the two instruments we suggest for the youngest students, ages 3 to 5. Little hands do well on the keys.

Kids 3 and 4 can start with a shorter 15-minute lesson. Most students start with 30 minutes.

Parents get practice notes after lessons, and students get to play on stage at our student showcases.

Common questions

How young can my child start?

Age 3. For ages 3 to 5 we usually suggest piano or drums, since small hands find guitar frets hard. Kids 3 and 4 can start with a 15-minute lesson for $30.

Do I need a piano at home?

Not to get started. Lessons happen on the school's pianos. You will want a piano or keyboard at home to practice as you go, and we are happy to help you pick a good one.

What does it cost?

$50 for a 30-minute lesson, and you pay as you go. Longer lessons are $70 for 45 minutes and $90 for an hour. No packages to buy up front, no sign up fees, and no contracts.

Is the first lesson a trial?

There is no trial lesson. Your first lesson is a full lesson with one of our teachers. Because everything is pay as you go, there is no commitment beyond it. If you love it, we hold your weekly slot.

How does scheduling work?
